Marriage is a beautiful thing. The romance coupled with the beauty coupled with the emotional significance simply captures our hearts with a power so immense that it's hard to describe, and it leaves us glowing for weeks afterwards. But before every wedding there's another moment that's equally as powerful, but far more intimate; the moment a man gets down on one knee and asks the woman of his dreams to be his wife.
A few weeks ago I was honoured with photographing this incredible moment for an awesome couple. Of course only one part of this couple was privy to this knowledge, Project Elrond was completely confidential and a on a strict need to know basis. I was added to the ranks only after swearing my silence to Orry, Mika's brother.
Brendon then let me in on his plans, he had really gone out of his way to make this a day they would never forget. His mom and sister were to take Mika to the Westcliff Hotel, which has one of the most beautiful views in Joburg under the guise of something inconspicuous. Unbeknownst to her the entire family and a few friends had gathered there in advance, to celebrate the assumed outcome of Project Elrond.
Brendon had been in close contact with the staff of the Westcliff, planning every detail carefully. The proposal was to take place in the rose gardens. His mother and sister were to leave her at the start of the path into the gardens, encouraging her to continue alone. The path itself looked looked amazing as Brendon had organised a florist to decorate it in advance.
Needless to say, Project Elrond was a complete success, and a truly heartwarming and once in a lifetime occasion, and one that was a total honour and privilege to witness and document.
To Brendon and Mika - wishing you guys so much love, joy, health and happiness for the future! Enjoy the photos!
